‘Absolutely disgusted’ – Harry Maguire’s mum and brother blast Tuchel’s England World Cup snub

Harry Maguire has been axed from England’s 2026 World Cup squad, with Manchester United defender left out of Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man selection – prompting an outraged reaction from his mum Zoe and brother Joe

Harry Maguire’s mum has expressed her ‘absolute disgust’ at her son’s exclusion from the England squad. The 33-year-old Manchester United star was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad, set to be announced on Friday morning.

However, news about the snub broke on Thursday night, and Maguire soon confirmed his omission on social media, sparking outrage among fans who felt he deserved a call-up. In an Instagram post, Maguire wrote: “I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had.

“I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision. I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players, all the best this summer.”

His mother, Zoe, didn’t mince words when expressing her feelings. On X, she simply wrote: “Absolutely disgusted.”

She added in a reply to another comment: “You couldn’t have done anymore. Hold your head high …Disgraceful”

One of his brothers, Joe, also vented his frustration, stating: “This might possibly be the worst decision I’ve ever seen in my life. No words.”

His sister, Daisy Maguire, said on Instagram: “Crazy decision. Keep your head up.”

Tuchel is expected to justify his decision regarding Maguire at a press conference on Friday. The centre-back isn’t the only big name to be left out, with Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, Luke Shaw and Morgan Gibbs-White also among the notable absentees.

It was Maguire’s mum who ‘started crying’ when he was recalled to the England squad in March after an 18-month hiatus. Speaking about his recall, Maguire said: “It’s amazing. It’s something I’ve missed.

“When you don’t get picked, when you’ve been a regular for six or seven years, it’s tough. I spoke to the manager and he told me I was in.”

“I phoned my family. My mum was on holiday and she was crying. I’m in a position now in my career where it is not so much about myself.

“I’m 33. If I play one minute at the World Cup or every game, I will do everything to make sure this country is successful.”

But now the only football Maguire will be playing this summer will be during United’s pre-season. The Red Devils are set to tour Europe for a series of friendlies while England strive to end 66 years of disappointment in North America.
