Footballer to marry mannequin girlfriend he is accused of trying to homicide

A footballer who was charged with the attempted murder of his girlfriend has announced their engagement three years on as he gushed “happy to share my whole life with you”

A footballer has announced his engagement to his girlfriend three years after he was charged with her attempted murder. Jordhy Thompson shared the news on Instagram for his 200,000 followers this week.

The Chilean footballer, who plays in the Russian Premier League with FC Orenburg, shared several snaps of him proposing to Camila Sepúlveda, the woman he was charged with attempting to kill in 2023.

Jordhy dropped to one knee and popped the big question on Moscow’s Red Square. Camila wrote: “A little walk around Moscow and a ‘yes’ for life.” To which, Thompson replied: “I love you, my life, happy to share my whole life with you and our children.”

The couple, who have a baby son named Valentín, were also pictured with Camila’s son Bruno from a previous relationship. They now live together in Russia, where Camila joined Jordhy in late 2024.

Their relationship has been marked by repeated allegations of domestic violence. In early 2023, a video emerged showing Jordhy allegedly assaulting Camila while he played for top-flight Chilean club Colo-Colo. She reported the incident, leading to a restraining order.

Despite this, they reconciled before a more serious attack in November 2023, when Thompson allegedly beat and attempted to strangle her, violating prior measures.

Prosecutors at the Fourth Guarantee Court of Santiago stated that the player had severely assaulted and attempted to suffocate his partner during a violent altercation. He was arrested in Santiago and charged with frustrated femicide – the legal term for the attempted murder of a woman – and contempt of court.

He was initially held in preventive custody at Santiago 1 prison for 10 days before being released to nocturnal house arrest, national arraignment, and a full no-contact order. His professional career appeared over until his legal team successfully brokered a judicial deal to suspend his national travel ban.

An offer from Orenburg allowed temporary suspension of the arraignment upon payment of a £82,926 (CLP 100m) bond backed up by a registered property asset. The financial guarantee allowed him to leave the country and sign with Orenburg in early 2024.

The club later triggered a permanent £1 million transfer clause to secure his contract until June 2027, as reported by NeedToKnow. In an unexpected turn of events, Camila chose to reunite with her alleged abuser in Russia and they had a child together in June last year.

The case remains subject to ongoing judicial process, with Chilean law stipulating that the accused must be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Social media reactions to the engagement have been mixed, with some users offering congratulations while others referenced the past allegations. No date for the wedding has been announced yet.
