Ed Sheeran lookalike banned from each Tesco in UK metropolis as he will get ripped into on-line
Bailey Esmonde, 22, has been banned from every Tesco in Derby after being slapped with a Criminal Behaviour Order. His mug shot has caused a stir after hundreds spotted his resemblance to Ed Sheeran
A notorious shoplifter has sparked a frenzy online after internet users noticed his police mug shot bears a striking resemblance to pop star Ed Sheeran.
Thief Bailey Esmonde, 22, has been slapped with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) and banned from every Tesco in Derby. However, when Derbyshire Police released his custody photo, hundreds of social media users were quick to point out his uncanny likeness to the chart-topping singer.
The force’s post garnered over 2,500 comments, many of which referenced the lookalike and dubbed him “a Temu version of Ed Sheeran”. One person quipped: “When your legs don’t work cause you’re barred from the store.”
Another chimed in: “Anyone else just here for the Ed Sheeran comments.” A third jested: “When the till don’t work like it used to before.”
One web user asked: “Is he Temu’s version of Ed Sheeran??” Another joked: “He stole a fiddle from an Irish bar?” while another added: “This is clearly ED HeRan.”
Esmonde was made subject of the CBO, which will last for three years until May 13, 2029. He is prohibited from entering any Tesco in the city and must not remain in any retail or commercial premises when asked to leave by staff, security, police officers or police community support officers in Derby.
This comes after Esmonde entered the Tesco Express store on St Peter’s Street on March 30 and nicked two cans of cider without paying. Just two days later on April 1, he was arrested for being in possession of a wrap of cocaine.
Esmonde, of no fixed address, faced charges of shop theft and possession of crack cocaine. He admitted to both offences at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on April 2.
In addition to this, he was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay compensation for the stolen alcohol.
Previously, Esmonde had been subjected to a CBO in 2024 after confessing to stealing a can of Monster energy drink, two packets of sandwiches, a bag of crisps and a bag of chicken bites from Tesco Express in Alvaston.
Initially, he was prohibited from entering just that particular store, but following his latest offences, officers successfully petitioned to extend the CBO to ban him from all Tesco shops in Derby.
The order was granted during a hearing at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on May 14.
