Bloke shuts down UK airport for hours in stand-off after ‘peeing himself’ earlier than flight
The man was reportedly prevented from boarding his flight to Jamaica after allegedly being drunk and wetting himself – and he decided to protest by refusing to leave the Terminal 2 car park
A man who wreaked havoc at Manchester Airport during a four-hour standoff with police claimed he was demonstrating after being barred from boarding his flight because he had “wet himself”. Travellers were forced to ditch their taxis and trek to the departure hall after nearby roads became completely jammed during yesterday afternoon’s chaos.
The drop-off and collection areas were sealed off from lunchtime following reports of a man positioned on the wrong side of barriers on the upper tier of Terminal 2’s car park. It has now come to light that the individual broadcast part of the drama live on social media.
Throughout the 11-minute footage, he can be heard explaining he had been refused entry onto a Jamaica-bound flight. “My reason was because I peed myself,” he stated.
“Literally, I got a taxi, went to the toilet and pissed myself so they didn’t let me on the plane… So basically now I’ve got Terminal 2 on gridlock and I’ve done it out of principle.”
While pacing back and forth along the ledge, he can be spotted conversing with a police officer, declaring: “It’s three o’clock I’ve been on here since I got here and now they reckon they are going to give my money back for my flight. I’m going to get arrested but I don’t give a f***. It’s the principle.”
It’s understood the man had previously been refused permission to board his flight after airline staff believed he was intoxicated and appeared to have soiled himself.
In a statement yesterday Greater Manchester Police said a man, aged in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and a public order offence, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Pictures from the scene revealed a massive tailback of traffic in and around the airport. “Passengers are having to ditch taxis in a bid to make their flights,” said one person.
“An elderly disabled woman being dropped off at the roundabout of T2 at 11:40 because everyone was just being told drop off was closed and you had to walk,” another wrote on X, followed by: “Why has this taken so long. Absolute shambles. Chaos outside the airport. No direction.”
The incident was resolved around 4pm as Manchester Airport urged passengers to ‘allow plenty of time for their journey’ due to gridlock. “We are grateful to our passengers for their understanding and patience this afternoon,” a statement added.
