Police board Ryanair flight at Edinburgh Airport after passenger turns into ‘disruptive’

A Ryanair flight from Riga to Edinburgh was met by police upon arrival after a passenger onboard became “disruptive”. The passenger was removed from the plane by officers

A passenger was removed from an Ryanair flight after officers met the aircraft upon its arrival on Thursday (May 27).

The drama unfolded around 11.35am when flight FR 3717 from Riga touched down in at Edinburgh Airport in Scotland. Police Scotland and Ryanair confirmed that a traveller had become “disruptive” during the journey, reports Edinburgh Live.

One passenger said: “During the flight I noticed the cabin crew, even one of the pilots heading to the back of the plane a couple of times, with the crew talking amongst themselves in hushed tones. One gestured to he back of the plane.

“When coming into Edinburgh, half a dozen police officers met the plane, boarded and two stood at the back of the plane and were waiting until the rest of the passengers deboarded. Quite a surprise to see so many police.”

While no criminal activity was established, Ryanair confirmed the passenger was removed, stating they maintain a “zero tolerance policy towards passenger misconduct”.

Footage captured from inside the aircraft appeared to show an officer making their way down the aisle of the crowded flight while passengers watched in astonishment.

Additional clips seemed to show authorities encircling the aircraft on the runway.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “Crew on this flight from Riga to Edinburgh (28 May) called ahead for police assistance after a passenger became disruptive onboard. The aircraft was met by police and the passenger was removed.

“Ryanair has a strict zero tolerance policy towards passenger misconduct and will continue to take decisive action to combat unruly passenger behaviour, ensuring that all passengers and crew travel in a respectful and stress-free environment, without unnecessary disruption.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated: “Around 11.40am on Thursday, 28 May, 2026, officers received a report of a disruptive passenger on a flight arriving at Edinburgh Airport.

“Officers attended and no criminality was established. Advice was provided.”
