Man shot with crossbow a University of Surrey campus as sufferer in ‘critical situation’
Surrey Police have confirmed that a man in his 50s is currently in a “serious condition” in hospital after being shot with a crossbow at the University of Surrey’s Manor Park Student Village
A man has been left fighting for his life after being shot with a crossbow at a popular university campus in the UK.
Police were called to reports of a man being shot with a crossbow at the University of Surrey’s Manor Park Student Village, Guildford, at around 10am this morning (June 4).
A male victim in his 50s was rushed to hospital in a “serious condition”. A significant emergency services presence remains at the scene. Surrey police confirmed that access to the Royal Surrey County Hospital is unaffected.
A 21-year-old Saudi national, who police say is a former student at the university, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody.
Surrey Police have confirmed that they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident but are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
The investigation into the incident continues as officers are currently supporting the victims family.
Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen said: “I appreciate that this incident will cause concern amongst our local communities, and I can reassure that we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident. We are working closely with the university as our investigation progresses.
“The suspect was detained at the scene shortly after the incident and an investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances of the assault.”
He continued: “The victim remains in a serious condition in hospital and his next of kin are aware and are being supported by officers.”
