Polish employee residing in Britain wins £1.8million home and instantly sells as much as transfer residence

A Polish train conductor living in Crewe is moving back home after winning a £1.8m prize package, selling the luxury mansion and car to fund his dream return

A train conductor is packing his bags and heading back to Poland after scooping a jaw-dropping £1.8million prize package. Dawid Szulc, 39, has spent two decades living in the UK but is now planning a grand return to his homeland after hitting the jackpot.

The Crewe-based railway worker won a fully-furnished luxury mansion in Lancashire, a Land Rover Defender and £25,000 in tax-free cash. But instead of moving into the plush digs, Dawid has already flogged the premium 4×4 and has put the house on the market so he can fund his dream move across Europe.

Dawid first arrived in the UK from south-west Poland back in 2005 as an 18-year-old. After a brief return home for university, he settled in Britain permanently in 2015, but his heart remained in Poland.

The dad-of-one admitted he had always yearned to be closer to his childhood mates and relatives, but real life kept getting in the way.

Dawid said: “My biggest dream was going back home. I’ve always wanted to move back to Poland at some point and be closer to my friends and family, but there was always something in the way.

“There was always the mortgage, work and all the responsibilities that come with everyday life. Then all of a sudden, with one phone call, it all became possible.”

The life-changing moment happened while Dawid was relaxing in front of the TV and noticed a string of missed calls and messages from Elite Competitions.

After checking the replay of the live draw, the reality of his newfound millionaire status sent him into complete shock.

He said: “My life is going to be so much different. For the first time in such a long time, I feel very light. I feel like every single issue has suddenly disappeared. I feel such a relief, like a weight lifted off my shoulders.

“Even around my family, I feel different, so much happier. I can see how it has changed me so much already. I feel so much better with my Mrs and my daughter. I am just not stressed anymore. It’s the first time in 40 years that I’ve experienced such a feeling. It is absolutely brilliant.”

The lucky winner immediately celebrated the bombshell news until midnight with his partner, Kamila, and their eight-year-old daughter, Amelia.

Next to find out were his ecstatic parents back in Poland. Dawid revealed his mum burst into tears upon hearing the news, knowing how desperately he had wanted to return home.

He said: “I’ve only told my mum and dad and one close friend. My mum was probably more emotional than I was to be fair. She was crying.

“My parents have known for years that I always wanted to go back home at some point. Now I know it’s going to happen. It’s just a matter of time.”

The family is already mapping out their next steps, starting with a two-week trip to Poznań this August where Dawid will celebrate his milestone 40th birthday.

Following the big celebration, he hopes to complete the permanent relocation back to Poland with his family within the next couple of years.

The raffle win means Dawid can now secure a bright future for his young daughter without the daily grind of financial worry.

Reflecting on his family’s future, he said: “The financial security that I can provide means we can focus on things that make us happy, enjoy life, enjoy our family and just be there for each other. Whatever passion Amelia develops, I will always support it and invest in it. That’s what matters.”
