Teen woman tells court docket she was raped by ‘three males and a toddler’ from Afghanistan
Mehrab Safi, 21, Awal Ahmadzai and Salman Habibkheil, both 19, along with a 16-year-old boy, are accused of attacking the 17-year-old girl at a house in Bristol in November last year
A teenage girl has testified in court that she was sexually assaulted by three men and a teenage boy, all originally from Afghanistan.
Mehrab Safi, 21, Awal Ahmadzai and Salman Habibkheil, both 19, along with a 16-year-old boy, are accused of attacking the 17-year-old girl at a house in Bristol in November last year.
Bristol Crown Court heard that following the incident, Safi, Ahmadzai and Habibkheil fled the UK on December 3, hiding in the back of a lorry to travel to France. They were apprehended by French authorities in Calais and handed over to English police, who arrested the trio on suspicion of rape.
The men, together with the 16-year-old boy, deny any wrongdoing and are currently standing trial. On Wednesday, jurors viewed a police interview with the complainant before she gave evidence in court.
The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, recounted meeting Safi while Christmas shopping with a friend in Bristol on November 25.
She provided him with her mobile phone number and later connected with him on social media platform Snapchat, where Safi asked for explicit photographs of her on November 28.
In the early hours of November 30, Safi arranged for a taxi to transport the girl from her home in Somerset to Bristol.
The girl was given cigarettes and vodka before allegedly being raped, first by Safi and then by his co-defendants.
During her police interview, she stated that she had told Safi she did not want to have sex with him at that time, but it happened nonetheless.
Habibkheil then allegedly raped her, followed by Ahmadzai and the 16-year-old boy, she claimed.
She told police: “I just wanted to go home. I didn’t feel safe. I just wanted to go home. I didn’t like it. I just wanted to be at home.”
The girl stated that she had been asleep during two of the alleged rapes and while being sexually assaulted.
The court previously heard how the girl’s mother raised the alarm when her daughter was not at home, leading police to trace her to a house in the St Werburghs area of Bristol.
Officers arrested the 16-year-old defendant when he answered the door to the property, while the three older co-accused are alleged to have fled as police arrived.
Safi, Habibkheil and Ahmadzai then reportedly hid in the back of a lorry to travel to France but were discovered by French police at about 9pm on December 3.
Safi, of St Werburghs, Bristol, denies one count of human trafficking and two charges of rape. Habibkheil, of Lockleaze, Bristol, denies one count of human trafficking and one charge of rape. Ahmadzai, of Redcliffe, Bristol, denies one charge of rape and one of assault by penetration.
The 16-year-old boy also denies one charge of rape. Their trial, presided over by Judge Michael Cullum, is expected to last up to three weeks.
