Man Utd information: Marcus Rashford makes resolution as switch goal opens contract talks

Manchester United are set for a major squad overhaul this summer, with lots of confirmed departures already under new manager Michael Carrick, while further stars face uncertain futures

Manchester United are bracing for a bustling summer as the transfer window ramps up.

Michael Carrick’s squad requires fresh faces as they gear up to re-enter the Champions League next season. The club announced the exits of Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia as part of their retained list on Wednesday. United have already moved to fill the gap left by Casemiro after securing a deal for midfielder Ederson.

Marcus Rashford, on the other hand, confronts an unclear future at United following his loan stint at Barcelona. The 28-year-old, who is in England’s World Cup squad, relished his time with the Catalan outfit and voiced his wish to stay at the Camp Nou. The La Liga champions hold an option to sign the United ace permanently for £26million but may not activate it. Here’s all the latest news from Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford reacts to transfer news

Marcus Rashford has erased any reference to Barcelona from his Instagram bio following reports the club will not activate their £26m purchase option, reports the Mirror.

He chalked up 14 goals and assists each in 49 matches for Hansi Flick’s side last season. Spanish publication Marca has reported Rashford, 28, will not be donning a Barcelona shirt next season after the club opted against the deal.

The decision to pursue Gordon, 25, was seen as evidence of Barcelona’s waning interest in signing Rashford, given both players operate on the left wing.

Barcelona’s choice to prioritise Gordon over Rashford was reportedly swayed by the former Newcastle United star being three-and-a-half years younger, as well as impressing Flick with his defensive capabilities.

Unless a transfer with another interested party can be arranged, Rashford is set to return to United following the World Cup.

He became an outcast at Carrington under Ruben Amorim after a huge bust-up with the since sacked boss, but may now reunite with Carrick, who has spoken positively of him in the past and could reintegrate him at United.

Contract discussions underway.

Leeds United have confirmed they are in negotiations regarding goalkeeper Karl Darlow’s future amid speculation he could make a shock move to Old Trafford.

The 35-year-old shotstopper is approaching the end of his contract and has piqued interest from Leeds’ bitter rivals.

The Welsh international has spent three years with the Yorkshire club and secured his position as first-choice during the latter half of the previous season, making 22 appearances. However, Daniel Farke’s side are reportedly on the hunt for a new goalkeeper.

Darlow has been linked with United and several other Premier League clubs ahead of potentially becoming a free agent.
