Full record of UK colleges opening late after England vs Mexico World Cup match on Monday
A number of schools across the UK have confirmed that they will let students arrive late on Monday to allow them to stay up and watch the England vs Mexico World Cup match
A host of schools throughout the UK have announced they will permit pupils to arrive late on Monday to enable them to stay up and watch the England vs Mexico World Cup clash.
The Three Lions will go head-to-head with the hosts at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca at 1am Monday morning (UK time). Nevertheless, the kick-off time has been cast into uncertainty following reports the fixture could be brought forward due to lightning being predicted at the venue.
With England starting at a decidedly awkward time for supporters back home, some schools are permitting students to turn up later than normal.
Meanwhile, other educational establishments are providing breakfast to youngsters before the school day begins, with match highlights being screened, reports the Express.
The National Education Union (NEU) has backed the flexible start times for Monday morning.
NEU general secretary Daniel Kebede described the fixture as “an important event in our calendar” and suggested it would be beneficial if as many young people as possible could view the match.
England boss Thomas Tuchel even encouraged parents to allow their children to watch the game.
He remarked: “Write an excuse for school and let them watch football. They have so much school to go to, but the World Cup is every four years.
“Let them watch, there will be a big, big match in four days, and we need the support of everyone and especially of the children.”
