Boy, 3, ‘seen steering automotive down road’ as man eggs him on and says ‘do not crash’
A man has been arrested after a clip of a three-year-old child allegedly driving a Toyota Hilux down a street in northern Perth, Australia, was posted on social media
Shocking footage has emerged allegedly showing a three-year-old child joyriding a Toyota Hilux down a residential street.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of reckless driving after the video was posted on social media on Friday. The video allegedly showed the tot sitting in the lap of a man with their arms on the steering wheel. The incident occurred in a suburban street in northern Perth, Australia.
During the alleged driving stunt, a Toyota Hilux can be seen swerving as it drives down the suburban road. In the video the man is allegedly heard telling the boy to “go” and “steer”. The man also allegedly says: “Look, there’s my hand… Look where you’re going. Don’t crash. Go straight,” during the social media video clip.

He added: “Go straight, straight. Up the curb, up the curb.”
The man behind the camera allegedly continues to yell instructions during the video clip before the vehicle comes to a stop after reaching a footpath. A voice then says: “We made it,” as the car comes to a stop.
Police have arrested a man at an address in Perth, Australia, on Saturday, in relation to the alleged video. The individual is due to appear in court on October 2. Authorities have stated the alleged incident is “deeply concerning”.
Footage obtained by 9 News Australia shows the shocking alleged social media clip. WA Police Superintendent Michael Dalla-Costa has stated: “What we have seen in this vision is deeply concerning because it appears to show a very young child being allowed to control a moving vehicle.
“A vehicle is not a toy, and allowing a child to steer a moving vehicle, particularly if not properly restrained, can have serious consequences.
“One unexpected movement, a child running onto the road, a cyclist, a pedestrian, or a simple mistake could have ended in tragedy.”

WA Minister Matthew Swinbourn appeared shocked after watching the video clip. The minister stated: “It has made me angry and it needs to be condemned in the strongest terms possible – there’s no defence.”
He added: “If there was an accident, this child would be facing death or permanent injury. We have had so many serious deaths on our roads and the government’s messaging around this is everybody’s responsibility to be safe and this is just ridiculous.”
Former WA Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan has slated the alleged dangerous driving. The former officer stated: “I was a traffic cop for about six years and I’ve seen a lot of crazy things.”
He added: “This has to rank up there with one of the most crazy and dangerous things I have seen.. I’m staggered about how stupid this guy actually is.”
