A prolific young striker with a goalscoring record that puts Europe’s elite marksmen to shame is sending social media into a frenzy, with Premier League supporters clamouring for their clubs to snap him up immediately.

Solomon Islands international Raphael Lea’i has quietly assembled one of the most astonishing statistical records in world football, racking up a staggering tally of 120 goals across just 115 career appearances. While top-flight scouts often comb the academies of South America and continental Europe for the next big thing, the 23-year-old forward has been tearing defences apart in the South Pacific and making waves on the international stage . . . including six goals in one game this week.

The striker delivered another reminder of his clinical finishing in the Solomon Islands SIFF Super League on Sunday, 1 November. Leading the line for unbeaten title-chasers Central Coast FC, Lea’i bagged an incredible five-goal haul as his side demolished local rivals KOSSA 7-0 at the Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara.

He then went on to score six goals agaisnt Ghupo Wantoks FC this week during an 8-1 tharshing, which prompted the club to post on social media: “This is what it currently feels like with Rafa Le’ai scoring TWO hat-tricks in our match yesterday! In addition to his 5 goals in our previous match, that’s an unbelievable ELEVEN GOALS in two matches!

“That was the story of our match against Ghupo FC. Rafa was able to find himself on the goal-scoring end of wonderful team plays from our boys. Despite the penalty and resulting penalty goal against us, our boys would have been proud of their performance yesterday.”

His latest five-star display comes shortly after his heroics on the continental stage, where he fired a dramatic hat-trick – including a 117th-minute extra-time winner – to send defending champions Central Coast into the OFC Champions League final.

And as Premier League sides are constantly searching for a cut-price clinical finisher ahead of the January transfer window, news of Lea’i’s latest exploits quickly caught fire online, prompting English top-flight fans to flood Reddit forums and Twitter/X with demands for their recruitment departments to “sign him now” before a European rival takes a punt – with the most popular destinations appearing to be Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and (hilariously) Manchester United.

Though largely unknown to casual British football fans, Lea’i is already a trailblazer in his homeland. Growing up playing futsal from the age of 12, his blistering pace and close control saw him dominate youth tournaments before earning a scholarship at Scots College in New Zealand.

Upon returning to the domestic S-League with Henderson Eels for the 2019-20 campaign, he announced himself in senior football by netting 24 goals in just seven matches – a run that included an outrageous 11-goal haul in a single game against Real Kakamora.

In January 2023, Lea’i made history by becoming the first footballer from the Solomon Islands to sign a professional contract in Europe, penning a deal with Bosnian Premier League outfit FK Velež Mostar following a successful trial in Turkey.

Although he found the net on his full debut against Igman Konjic in May 2023, severe bouts of homesickness curtailed his maiden European adventure, prompting a move closer to home with spells in Australia at Adelaide City and Wollongong Wolves, as well as Solomon Kings.

Now back on home soil with Central Coast FC and playing with renewed confidence, the 5ft 9in attacker has proved he can also trouble European opposition at senior international level. During the FIFA Series in March 2026, Lea’i bagged a brace against Bulgaria, becoming the first Solomon Islander in history to score against a European nation.

Whether a Premier League or Championship side is bold enough to offer him a second shot at European football remains to be seen, but at just 23 years of age, Oceania’s most lethal marksman shows no signs of slowing down.
