Desperate Vladimir Putin could be forced to drag rich Moscow “golden sons” into his brutal war machine as staggering frontline losses mount, a senior MP has claimed.
Labour’s Dame Emily Thornberry reckons the tyrant is on the ropes as his forces burn through tens of thousands of troops a month in Ukraine.
And the chair of the Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee believes the staggering body count could soon force Putin to make a dangerous move by calling up young men from Russia’s wealthiest cities to feed his meat grinder.
Speaking at a Labour Party conference fringe event in Liverpool, Dame Emily said: “He was talking about having massive drafts of 300,000 or half a million.

“I don’t know how he’s going to do that without asking the people of Moscow and St Petersburg to hand over their golden sons – and that will cause real trouble.”
Commenting after a recent visit to Ukraine, she added: “At the moment, those fighting on the front line are either from North Korea or outer areas of Russia, where people may be outraged that they’re losing so many people, but nobody listens to them.”
To make matters worse for the Kremlin boss, his cash cow is drying up as Western nations choke off Russian oil and gas imports.

Dame Emily branded Putin “desperate”, revealing that while he still hawks fuel elsewhere, he is getting nowhere near as much money.

Comparing the war-torn nation to a high-tech hub of deadly innovation, Dame Emily highlighted how resourceful locals are building drones in their own homes.
She said: “They are extraordinarily resourceful and will step sideways when there is a problem and work out what to do. They are making drones on kitchen tables.
“Ukraine has become a kind of Silicon Valley for defence and we need to do much more work with them on things like drones.”
Despite predicting a grim winter push from Putin aimed at knocking out heat and water, the MP insisted the DIY defenders wouldn’t back down.
She added: “I came back with no doubt the Ukrainians will dig in, they will guide us out and we will continue to be supporters.”
