Cameron Menzies uppercuts desk after World Championship exit in ‘generational head loss’

Cameron Menzies couldn’t contain his anger after being knocked out of the World Championship by Charlie Manby as the Scot uppercutted the on stage table.

The 36-year-old Scot is known for wearing his emotions on stage but ‘Cammy’ suffered a moment of madness when he started punching the table following his defeat. Menzies lost 3-2 to debutant Manby after a thrilling match, but the contest ended in controversial fashion.

The world No.26 needed 84 to send the match into tiebreaking legs after Manby twice levelled the set count, and broke Menzies in the fifth set to move within one leg of the match.

Both players made a mess of their checkouts, with Menzies missing darts to save the match on double three, but went inside before choosing to bust his score. However, his final dart was not accepted by referee Kirk Bevins after the Scot encroached on the board during his throw.

Manby missed three darts to checkout 16, allowing Menzies to return, but ‘Cammy’ missed two darts at double one to win the leg. Manby returned and pinned the same double with his final dart to win the match.

As Manby celebrated with his family and friends, Menzies was left gutted at the table, reflecting on his loss. But the hot-headed Ayrshire thrower couldn’t contain his emotions as he proceeded to uppercut the table three times, sending his darts and water flying across the Ally Pally stage.

Menzies did eventually shake Manby’s hand, but the boos had already started from the disgruntled fans and he was encouraged to leave the stage by Bevins.

On his way off, Menzies did attempt to apologise to the fans, but the damage was already done – to the table and his reputation.

Cameras snapped Menzies leaving the stage with blood pouring out of his hand where he had battered the table.

Fans couldn’t believe Menzies’ outburst, with one user saying on X: “Some generational headloss by Cameron Menzies this mind.” A second quipped: “If only Cameron Menzies could hit his doubles as good as he hit this table then he would be a decent darts player.”

Another joked: “Menzies got a career in boxing with those uppercuts.” While a fourth added: “Cameron Menzies lost the plot in the darts.”
