Rose West’s Christmas in jail features a ‘festive’ feast and present giving

Infamous serial killer Rose West has tried to make friends this festive season by sending them cards and gifts, while tucking into a three course meal on Christmas Day

Infamous serial killer Rose West has spent every December since 1995 behind bars, and is set to spend another Christmas locked up.

The crazed murderer was handed 10 life sentences in 1995, after she went on a killing spree with husband Fred in the 1970s and 1980s. Now, it’s been revealed that the 71-year-old posts Christmas cards under the cell doors of her fellow inmates.

Despite changing her name to Jennifer Jones in 2020 to try and escape her past, everyone locked up with her knows who she truly is. A former inmate, who served time with West at HMP New Hall near Wakefield in West Yorkshire shared how the killer likes to spend her time in December.

She’s known to hand-post signed festive cards, but her fellow inmates don’t take to it kindly. West is also known to give out small selection boxes bought from the prison shop to a few chosen female prisoners.

A source told The Sun: “Everyone in there knows who she is and what she did. She might have changed her name but she cannot escape her crimes.

“Every Christmas when I was in there with her she would post Christmas cards under everyone’s doors. I ripped mine up because I thought it was disgusting. A few other women did the same thing, or just binned them.”

She added: “She tries to buy people’s friendship in New Hall because she is lonely but she knows how much she is hated.

“I think she also knows that people would be annoyed at her for sending the cards, so she does it just to anger them.”

West is notorious for trying to make friends in one of the country’s only female prisons. As well as that, Rose and her fellow inmates are to be treated to a choice of three Christmas dinner options: roast turkey with pigs in blankets and sage and onion stuffing, butternut, kale and apricot vegan roast, or smoked haddock and salmon fishcake.

The Christmas dinner menu at New Hall, also revealed by the Sun, shows they will also get sides of roast potatoes, Brussel sprouts, carrots, and gravy.
