Liverpool Smyths Toys retailer cordoned off by police as forensic groups swarm

A Smyths Toys store has been sealed off by police. Officers from Merseyside Police are currently at the scene at the toy shop located in North Liverpool Retail Park on East Lancashire Road this morning, Monday, December 29.
The front entrance of the store is now behind a police cordon. A fleet of police vehicles, including a scientific support forensic team, can be seen parked within the retail park’s car park.
Several officers from Merseyside Police, including detectives, are present at the scene. The exact time when the toy superstore was cordoned off remains unclear.
Merseyside Police has been asked for further details regarding the incident. Potential customers have been turned away from Smyths. Two people tried to enter the store but were told it was closed by the officer guarding the entrance to the cordon.
The officer gave no indication as to why it was closed.
The front entrance to the superstore is currently ajar but staff and customers are unable to enter.
The Echo reporter at the scene said: “Four Merseyside Police vehicles including the CSI unit are outside Smyths Toys Superstore.
“A cordon is in place surrounding the entrance to the shop with one officer guarding the cordon. A detective can be seen inside the store.
“Staff have no been allowed to enter this morning and shoppers are being turned away. The two shops next door remain open as normal.”
Staff from neighbouring stores are unsure about the nature of the incident.
A staff member at Food Warehouse said they were unaware of what had happened, other than that Smyths employees were unable to get into work.
A worker at Home Bargains said they came into work at around 8am and Smyths was cordoned off.
