Ruben Amorim sacking ‘might price Man Utd £50million’ after INEOS make big determination
Ruben Amorim’s sacking could cost Manchester United a further £50million – with the reported cash-strapped Red Devils parting ways with the boss
Ruben Amorim’s sacking could cost Manchester United £50million, after the Portuguese boss was dismissed on Monday morning following his bombshell press conference.
Amorim, 40, launched into a rant during his post match press conference after a 1-1 draw with Leeds saying he considered himself the “manager” of United rather than the “head coach.” He also took aim at Gary Neville during the bizarre rant.
United have issued a statement confirming Amorim’s sacking. It read: “Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United. Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.”
They also confirmed Darren Fletcher will take over the Red Devils reigns on an interim basis – starting with their clash against Burnley on Wednesday evening.
However, the sacking will provide more financial hurdles for the already reportedly cash-strapped Red Devils.
Speaking to AceOdds, Dr. Rob Wilson, Director of Executive Education at University Campus of Football Business in London, said the following after Manchester United sacked Ruben Amorim on Monday morning.
“Ruben Amorim’s wages were considerably lower than those of other Premier League managers, likely due to the cost of releasing him from his Sporting Lisbon contract.
“Intuitively, a figure of £12 million seems appropriate for his contract, though it’s unclear if this covers only him or his entire backroom team, who all came with him.
“However, when you consider the total package to replace Amorim, this figure could quickly rise to £50 million based on the estimated costs Manchester United made by sacking and replacing Erik ten Hag with Amorim.
“This is a sum Manchester United would likely prefer not to spend in a single year, particularly when the club is implementing redundancies elsewhere.”
