Darren Fletcher names first Man Utd squad for Burnley conflict with son in squad

Manchester United’s caretaker boss Darren Fletcher has named his first manchester United squad on Wednesday evening, with son Jack in the matchday squad

Darren Fletcher has named his first Manchester United squad as the Red Devils travelling to Turf Moor on Wednesday evening.

Fletcher, 41, is the man in the hot seat for the Red Devils following the sacking of Ruben Amorim after his bombshell press conference after a 1-1 draw with Leeds United over the weekend. And the former midfielder has named his son, Jack, in the matchday squad.

Jack Fletcher will start the game on the bench, while his twin brother, Tyler, has been axed from the squad. He has also named five defenders in the starting side: Diogo Dalot, Ayden Heaven, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu.

Speaking on BBC Sport ahead of Fletcher’s first match in charge, former United coach Rene Meulensteen said: “I don’t think now that it needs much to fix it, I really don’t think it does.

“You just need to put the players in the system that the players can play to their strengths, and this could happen very, very, very quickly.

“The advantage of Darren Fletcher taking over as interim is two or three-fold. He knows the club.

“He’s been under a very successful coach so he knows what one looks like and he’s also been in a culture now which is not successful, so he knows what’s wrong, what to fix in the short term.

While Peter Schmeichel added: “[Having players back from injury] is just about the only thing that is good at the moment for Manchester United.

“It’s not been a great couple of days. I’m still a little bit shocked and surprised to be honest at how this situation has all been handled and out of nothing really it’s been sprung on us.

“I can’t make sense of the timing. I’m really confused about it.”
