Mississippi mass capturing kills lady, 7, and 5 others as cops reveal chilling element
Daricka M. Moore, 24, is accused of shooting and killing at least six people, including a seven-year-old girl, after allegedly targeting three different homes in West Point, Mississippi, on Friday night
At least six individuals, including a seven year old girl, have tragically lost their lives in a mass shooting after a man reportedly targeted his own family members.
A 24-year-old man is said to have systematically attacked three separate homes in West Point, Mississippi on Friday night, according to officials. Authorities have confirmed that four of the victims were related to the alleged shooter.
Heartbreakingly, one of the victims has been identified as a seven year old girl, who was discovered with a gunshot wound to her head. It’s understood she was the second cousin of the shooter. The shootings took place in the rural community of Cedarbluff, located west of the county seat of West Point.
Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott named Daricka M. Moore as the suspect during a press conference, reports Sun. The 24-year-old is facing a first-degree murder charge that could potentially be upgraded to capital murder, stated Scott.
“I will say at this point, we do not know a motive for these acts,” Scott said. Moore may also face additional murder charges. Authorities reported that the first shooting occurred at a home on David Hill Road, where three people were killed.
The next incident took place at a residence on Blake Road, Scott said. Investigators alleged that Moore pointed a gun at the head of the younger girl in her home, but it remains unclear whether the gun misfired or if it was an intentional shooting.
Another young child and their mother were present in the house at the time. Sheriff Scott explained that Moore then allegedly fled the scene in a stolen pickup truck to target another home.
Two men, identified as Barry and Samuel Bradley, were discovered dead at the scene, both with gunshot wounds to their heads.
Moore, who had fled the scene, was apprehended by police in the stolen truck. He was taken into custody at the Clay County jail before dawn on Saturday, according to jail records.
Online court documents from Clay County reveal that Moore has no prior criminal charges. It remains unclear whether Moore has legal representation, as Woodruff did not provide this information.
Moore’s initial court appearance is set for January 12. Scott Colom, the District Attorney for Clay County, has vowed to pursue a capital murder case against Moore. He said: “This is the type of case where the death penalty is going to have to be really looked at.
“We have to continue the investigation. You have to go through with mitigation experts. There’s going to be mental evaluations done, but after all that is all said and done, if he’s eligible for the death penalty, the district attorney’s office is going to go for the death penalty.”
Moore’s first court date is scheduled for January 12.
