Italy earthquake sees 4.5 tremors strike as locals flood streets and ‘homes shake’
An earthquake struck the Italian city of Forli on Tuesday, January 13, with terrified locals abandoning their homes – this is a breaking news story
An earthquake has hit the Italian city of Forli. Locals rushed outside after reporting their “houses shook” this morning (January 13).
The tremors happened in Emilia-Romagna, between the provinces of Ravenna and Forlì-Cesen. The first tremor, according to a preliminary estimate by the Italian National Institute of Geophysics (INGV), occurred at 9:27 a.m. with a magnitude between 4.0 and 4.5, with its epicenter in the province of Forlì-Cesena.
A few minutes later, at 9:29 a.m., a second seismic event struck the Ravenna area, with an estimated magnitude between 3.7 and 4.2.
The two tremors, which occurred close together and lasted approximately 4-5 seconds, were distinctly felt by residents. In some homes, the shaking was felt as a wave, with houses shaking noticeably.
Trains traveling in the area of the earthquake have been stopped while safety and technical checks are carried out.
