Super Bowl followers declare Green Day ought to have changed Bad Bunny for halftime present after high-energy pregame efficiency
Green Day kicked off Super Bowl LX in style with an electric opening ceremony – and fans are convinced they should be headlining at halftime instead of Bad Bunny.
Before Sunday night’s showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots in Santa Clara, the iconic Bay Area punk rock band got the crowd going at Levi’s Stadium by performing some of their most famous hits.
After opening with an instrumental of ‘Good Riddance’ and then switching over to ‘Holiday’, they slowed it down with ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ and saved the best until last with legendary song ‘American Idiot’.
While some were disappointed that frontman Billie Joe Armstrong – who is known for adding anti-Donald Trump lyrics into live performances – did not hit out at the president, a number of fans believe Green Day would have provided a better halftime show than Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny.
‘I’m not even a Green Day fan… but I’d take them over Bad Bunny for the halftime show any day,’ one user said on X.
‘Green Day is a 400 million times better artist than Bad Bunny,’ another concluded.

A third commented: Green Day would’ve been a better halftime performer than Bad Bunny!’
A fourth wrote: ‘Green Day would have been much better than bad bunny (they playing rn) no hate to bad bunny but damn imagine’.
‘Bad Bunny and Green Day could’ve swapped gigs tonight,’ said a fifth.
While one simply declared: ‘Green Day > Bad Bunny.’
Several users accused NBC’s live broadcast of censoring Armstrong during his performance, given he typically tweaks part of the lyrics to American Idiot to say: ‘I’m not part of the MAGA agenda.’
However, it is believed the network only censored swearing from Armstrong, who appeared to skip his usual political message.
Bad Bunny, real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is finally set to take to the stage in Santa Clara five months after his unveiling as the musical act for Super Bowl LX sparked uproar.

A number of Americans are set to boycott the Latino artist’s performance due to his anti-Trump stance, as well as the fact that virtually all of his songs are in Spanish.
Amid the outrage over Benito, Turning Point USA – the nonprofit organization founded by late MAGA activist Charlie Kirk- has put together its own halftime show headlined by legendary country rock singer Kid Rock for more conservative viewers.
Bad Bunny has previously spoken out against the Trump administration and cited ICE agents as a reason why he did not include any mainland US dates for his tour – before once again calling out the federal law enforcement group at the 2026 Grammys last weekend.
‘Before I say thanks to god, I’m going to say, ICE Out,’ Bad Bunny said after winning an award.
He received a massive ovation from the crowd before he continued: ‘We are not savage. We are not animals. We are not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans.

‘The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love. So, please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love.
‘We don’t hate them, we love our people, we love our family, and that’s the way to do it, with love.’
While he skipped a dig at Trump in the opening ceremony, Armstrong took aim at Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents in the US during a pre-Super Bowl party in San Francisco.
‘Quit your s**tty a** job,’ he said to cheers from the crowd. ‘Quit that s**tty job you have. Because when this is over, and it will be over at some point in time, [Homeland Security Secretary] Kristi Noem, [White House advisor] Stephen Miller, [Vice President] JD Vance, Donald Trump, they’re gonna drop you like a bad f**king habit. Come on this side of the line.’
