Met Police inspector in firearms unit seems in court docket accused of raping a girl 5 occasions over 12 years and acts of violence throughout BDSM intercourse

A former Metropolitan Police firearms officer has appeared in court accused of five counts of rape during a years-long campaign of abuse against a woman.

John Doyle, 53, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on Wednesday to face allegations of sexual abuse, coercive control, misconduct in a public office and possessing extreme pornography.

Dressed in a smart dark suit, Doyle clasped his hands in front of him and spoke quietly as he confirmed his name, date of birth and address.

With grey hair swept back and short grey stubble, he showed little emotion, other than slight shakes of his head throughout the hearing.

Doyle is accused of ‘serious acts of violence’ during BDSM sex, including kicking the woman and wrapping her face with clingfilm to restrict her breathing, during a 12-year period of abuse.

He is alleged to have controlled what the woman ate, forced her into cleaning ‘rituals’, and sent her to source class A drugs for his own sexual pleasure.

It is claimed he posted intimate images on a public forum and eroded the woman’s confidence with a torrent of criticisms about her appearance and hygiene, causing her to withdraw into herself.

He is also said to have had sex on police premises and gained improper access to a gun, through his role in the police.

Previously with the Met’s Specialist Firearms Command, Doyle was arrested and suspended in June 2024, before being dismissed from the force in December 2024.

On top of the rape allegations, he faces one count of sexual assault by penetration, two counts of coercive and controlling behaviour, two counts of causing actual bodily harm and four counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He is also accused of two counts of misconduct in public office and one charge of possessing extreme pornography.

Doyle was notified of the 17 charges against him on February 4, but details of the case only came to light on Tuesday.

His specific role within the firearms command unit, also known as MO19, is unclear, but it includes various teams such as counter-terrorism firearms officers and tactical support.

Catherine Baccas of the CPS said: ‘Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so.

‘This follows allegations made by a woman relating to a period of alleged abuse spanning 12 years.

‘We have worked closely with the Metropolitan Police as they have carried out their investigation into the allegations.’

Senior District Judge Paul Goldspring sent the case to Southwark Crown Court, where Doyle must appear on March 11.

He granted Doyle bail with conditions. He must live and sleep at his home address in Liverpool, and have no contact with the alleged victim.
