Adored Drummer dies at 42 as devastated band pay tribute to ‘most beloved human’

The US-based band are mourning the loss of their drummer, who died suddenly recently. No details about the passing have been shared as fans flocked to share memories

A devastated band have announced the tragic death of their drummer. Timothy Very, who joined Manchester Orchestra in 2011, featured on the American rock group’s final four records – Simple Math, Cope, A Black Mile to the Surface and The Million Masks of God in 2021.

While no circumstances surrounding his death have been revealed, his bandmates expressed their devastation over his “sudden” passing. The 42-year-old father hailed from Pensacola, Florida, and struck up a friendship with bassist Andy Prince during his teenage years.

He became part of the band over 15 years ago, with his final performance taking place at Atlanta’s The Eastern last November, reports the Mirror.

In a heartfelt tribute posted across their social media platforms, Orchestra wrote: “The entire Manchester Orchestra family has been devastated by the sudden passing of our brother, Timothy Very. The most beloved human being any of us were lucky enough to know in this life.

“We’ve all been dreading sharing this news as we are all still in absolute disbelief. Tim was instantly likable and interacted with everyone he met with kindness and warmth. His laugh was infections and he immediately made people feel invited and encouraged.”

The band continued: “Strangers quickly became friends and friends became family. He had an undeniable light that was only matched by his dedication and love for his craft that he was clearly put on earth to do. No words can ever do him justice.

“Please know, if you are someone who loved Tim, he loved you too. The only thing that Tim loved more than creating music was being with him family. You’d be pressed to find a more joyful dad. We love you Tim, thank you for loving us. You are a force of positivity that will be a constant presence in the rest of our days.”

Devastated fans flocked to offer comfort and share cherished memories. One penned: “Devastated. Tim changed my husband’s opinion of live music. As a very technical musician and teacher, he found live music to never be as “technically perfect” as the albums and that bothered him (ugh, I know, I know). But then I took him to see MO play and he was absolutely floored.

“He said Tim’s pocket was flawless and couldn’t believe how incredible MO sounded. I always loved watching Tim at MO shows, too, because his energy was so infectious and bursting with light. Rest easy, Tim. You will be so very deeply missed.”

Another expressed: “Oh my god this is absolutely heartbreaking. I am so sorry. Tim was an incredible human being who will leave an everlasting impact on so many, and I am so grateful to have known him. Sending all of the love to you guys, and his family.”
