Bizarre second tennis star storms off the courtroom in TEARS – leaving her opponent surprised – after elimination from Miami Open
In a bizarre end to a first-round match at the Miami Open, Czech tennis player Katerina Siniakova stormed off the court after losing in straight sets.
The tournament has already seen a string of controversies, first with the high-profile withdrawals of several big names, including Emma Raducanu and Novak Djokovic, and then the cancellation of a full day of play due to heavy rain on Wednesday.
The incident involving 13th seed Siniakova followed her first-round defeat to unseeded Colombian Camila Osorio, which she lost 6-1, 6-4.
On the final point, Siniakova tumbled to the floor, and Osorio headed over to her side of the court to check she was OK.
However, Siniakova was in no mood to converse, briefly shaking Osorio’s hand before striding past her.
Osorio, left clearly bemused, then followed Siniakova over to the players’ benches to check on her again, but Siniakova grabbed her bag and strode past her once more.

‘They seemed to be besties about 30 minutes ago, what happened there?’ a commentator on Tennis TV asked.
‘Osorio is one of the nicest players on the tour and she’s trying to go over just to see her and unfortunately things were just getting a bit emotional. Terrible way for this one to end.’
The defeat was Siniakova’s second at the hands of Osorio in recent weeks, with the Colombian also beating her 6–2, 5–7, 6–3 at the Qatar Open last month.
It was not the first time in recent weeks that Siniakova has been involved in on-court drama, having faced Mirra Andreeva when the Russian delivered her heated ‘f*** you all’ outburst at Indian Wells earlier this month.
Defending champion Andreeva, 18, punched herself and threw her racket after losing the second-set tie-break before smashing it again, resulting in a code violation.
She threw her racket once more following match point and then, after shaking hands at the net with Siniakova, left the court gesturing and shouting ‘f*** you all’ at the crowd leaving her opponent smiling as she watched on.
Tensions had been building from early into their match. After taking the first set, tensions arose when Siniakova complained to the umpire about the minimal time Andreeva was taking between serves. Umpire Jennifer Zhang asked the 18-year-old to slow down between points, but the No 8 seed argued that she could do as she pleased.
‘Well if I’m serving, it’s up to me if it’s bothering me or not, right? And she was already (in) place,’ Andreeva said.
Umpire Zhang replied: ‘No, but it’s both players. She was not (there]) yet actually,’ to which Andreeva said: ‘Well, because I’m still serving, so my focus is on the ball. So if I don’t see her, it means she doesn’t bother me. You see everything so you can say that this and that can bother everyone. I’m serving. If she’s not bothering me…’
The 18-year-old smashed her racquet, punched herself and told the crowd to ‘f*** off’
Hostilities intensified between the pair during the second set, and Andreeva repeatedly punched her thigh after losing a break point at 2–1.
The rollercoaster set concluded with Andreeva losing a tie-break after misfiring a forehand long. Upset, the Russian lobbed her racket across the court and continued slamming it into the ground while receiving a code violation from the umpire.
She then asked her entire team to leave her coaching box. That move did little to inspire any momentum in the third set, with Siniakova reeling off four straight games to win the match.
Andreeva, clearly frustrated with the outcome, then clashed with the crowd, telling them to ‘f*** off’ as they booed her off court, with a stunned spectator seen mouthing ‘oh my God’.
The Miami Open, meanwhile, trudges on, with tournament organisers confirming on Wednesday that all sessions had been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
Tennis legend Venus Williams was among the players affected, with her match against Francesca Jones repeatedly shifted on the schedule. Their meeting had been billed as the standout clash at the Grandstand on Wednesday evening.
