A pupil brought a kitchen knife into a primary school with police having to be notified. Sandon Primary School in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent, issued a statement to parents regarding the incident.
Parents shared the letter with Stoke on Trent Live., which stated: “We are writing to share clear information about an incident in school yesterday which we know has caused concern.
“A pupil brought a kitchen knife onto the school premises in a bag. The knife remained in the pupil’s bag until it was secured by staff. The situation was managed safely without the need for a lockdown. The CCTV in the corridor has been reviewed and we are confident that there was no threat to pupil safety and wellbeing.”
The letter continued: “We immediately notified the parents of the pupils involved, the police, and relevant agencies who are now involved in managing the situation.
“Please be assured that the safety and wellbeing of all our pupils and staff remain our highest priority.”
The statement added: “We understand that this incident has caused alarm within the school community and we apologise for the limited communication regarding this matter.
“However, due to the sensitive nature and the ongoing involvement of external authorities, we were unable to share details until now.”
The school is currently closed until Monday, 11 May due to the May Bank Holiday and inset days.
“While we must maintain the confidentiality of the pupil in question, we wish to assure you that the academy is handling the incident with the utmost gravity to guarantee the continued safety of our students.”
