Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor ‘threatened and chased’ by balaclava-clad man at Sandringham

A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor close to his new home on the King’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk, in what is being described as a security breach

A man, reportedly clad in a balaclava, has been apprehended after allegedly menacing Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor near his new residence on the King’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

The individual is believed to have confronted the former prince while he was out strolling with his dogs last night (May 6) at approximately 7:30pm. The man is reported to have leapt from a car shouting before being swiftly tackled to the ground by the security detail of the disgraced ex-Duke.

Mountbatten-Windsor forfeited his entitlement to state-funded police protection in early 2022, when he was divested of his royal title, His Royal Highness HRH.

The suspect is then understood to have sprinted after them as they sped off down a lane just outside the Sandringham Royal Parkland.

Police were called and the man was arrested at the scene and taken away for questioning. The incident is not being treated as terror related, a source said. It’s believed that one line of inquiry is that the suspect is a fixated individual.

He had allegedly approached Mr Mountbatten-Windsor close to his temporary residence near Marsh Farm, which is undergoing renovation before he moves there permanently. Police have taken statements on from witnesses including the former prince and his personal protection officer.

Andrew lost his rights to state-funded police protection when he was stripped of his royal title, His Royal Highness HRH, in 2022 during a civil case with Virginia Giuffre.

He paid millions of pounds to settle but admitted no wrongdoing.

According to Westminster Security, a private security firm founded by a former Royal Military Police close protection officer, in 2022 Andrew was “no longer entitled to royal protection” from the UK’s Royalty and Specialist Protection RASP when he stepped back from performing public duties.

It comes after claims Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s security detail were “left in the dark” about Jeffrey Epstein’s sordid past during his notorious New York trip.

Ex-royal protection officer Scott Hamer said the team guarding the disgraced former Prince “did not know” the billionaire financier was a convicted paedophile when they visited his luxury Manhattan mansion.

He said the Met Police team wouldn’t have been clued-up on Epstein’s 2008 Florida conviction.

The 2010 trip to New York, which took place after Epstein had served time for soliciting an underage girl, resulted in an infamous photograph of the pair strolling through Central Park.
