Cashier’s holiday snaps lead to jail time – need to know
- A greedy cashier who stole thousands from vulnerable elderly customers has been banged up after her lavish holiday snaps gave her away.
- Kelly Kershaw, 54, nicked money from some of the “most vulnerable” clients at a Nationwide Building Society branch in Wales – including an 85-year-old stroke sufferer.
- The brazen thief then splashed the stolen cash on luxury holidays to Africa, Paris, Dubai and the Caribbean, boasting on Facebook she was “living and loving life one adventure at a time”.
- But her flashy social media posts proved to be her downfall when suspicious colleagues wondered how she could afford such trips on her £1,400-a-month wage.
- Kershaw was jailed for 16 months at Caernarfon Crown Court after admitting five counts of fraud, having stolen £8,605 from customers including a man with learning difficulties.
- The prosecutor said: “It was noted by members of staff she was having numerous expensive holidays and appeared to be living beyond her means.”
- Judge Timothy Petts said Kershaw needed to be imprisoned as a “deterrent” to other cashiers to “prevent others from doing the same.”
