Oisin Murphy has racing followers in tears as he is ‘set to trip Sydney Sweeney’
Horse racing fans have been left in stitches with the thought that Oisin Murphy is set to ride Sydney Sweeney at Wolverhampton tonight – but not all is as it seems
Horse racing fans have been left in stitches at the idea that Oisin Murphy is set to ride Sydney Sweeney in Wolverhampton.
The 30-year-old five-time champion jockey is back in action on Monday night on the all-weather course at Wolverhampton. Murphy had five winners across the three-day Chester May Meeting last week before winning at Ascot on Saturday aboard Andrew Balding’s 4/1 shot Sinatra.
But it’s back to racing under the lights for the Irishman tonight; however, he might be perked up by the thought of his mount in the opening 6:30 race. That’s because Murphy is hoping to start the night right on 7/4 favourite Cydney Sweenie.

Trained by Jack Marland and owned by Jesmond Racing, the two-year-old will run in only its second race after debuting at Pontefract last month.
The name has certainly tickled fans and captured their imagination with jokes quickly flying around about Murphy mounting up on a horse named after the eye-popping Hollywood star.
One user quipped: “I didn’t expect to see Oisin Murphy riding Sydney Sweeney at Wolverhampton tonight!”
A second joked: “You’d have to back it. Oisin will definitely come first.” A third added: “Fair play to the bloke.”
While another joined in: “I heard plenty of jockeys were putting their hands up for the ride.” A fifth couldn’t help but quip: “Hopefully a stayer.”
It would also be a good evening for the Daily Star Sport’s tipster Jason Heavey, who is hoping Murphy doesn’t pull up before Cydney crosses the line, with our horse racing expert backing Murphy to finish in good pace out the front.
Rossa Ryan will be looking to keep Murphy honest to the finish in the 6f sprint with the Ralph Beckett-trained Indian Land posing the biggest threat in the market at 10/3.
Jack Mitchell rides the James Horton-trained Bad Baker at 6/1, while 17/2 shot Agnes Hathaway, ridden by Hector Crouch for trainer Michael Bell, is the other current single-figure odds runner in the 11-horse field.
