Health officials have issued a red alert as boozed-up Brits head to the US for the World Cup amid soaring STI risks and bankrupting ticket price hikes
- Health officials are sounding a red alert over fears that the World Cup could cause a massive spike in sexually transmitted infections. Experts warn that a summer of sin is likely as fans indulge in boozy celebrations across the Atlantic. British supporters are expected to lead the charge to the tournament, making up a staggering 18 per cent of all international bookings. This massive influx of tourists has New York City officials terrified of the potential pressure on local healthcare systems.
- The NYC Health Department has warned medical providers to prepare for a surge in “travel-associated infectious diseases.” Authorities are bracing for the period between June 13 and July 19 when throngs of fans will descend on the Big Apple.
- In addition to STIs, officials expect an increase in heat-related illnesses and gastrointestinal issues among the crowds. Doctors have been told to anticipate a rise in “alcohol and substance use” as fans party during the games.
- England fans are set to storm Texas for their opening match before moving on to the New York New Jersey Stadium. Meanwhile, the Tartan Army will be taking over Boston to support Scotland in their clash against Haiti.
- Supporters are not just risking their physical health but also their life savings due to wallet-punishing ticket hikes. The cheapest seats for England games are currently $220, which is ten times the price originally promised in the host bid. The Football Supporters’ Association has slammed the shocking ticket costs as a “step too far” for loyal fans. Despite the anger, thousands of boozed-up Brits are still expected to make the trip regardless of the financial hit.
