Man took a dump on social membership wall then wiped bottom with sandwich he ready earlier
Mark Mortimer, 46, of Coleford, Gloucestershire, pleaded guilty to outraging public decency after defecating on the wall of the Lydbrook and District Community Social Club in the Forest of Dean
A man defecated on the outside wall of a social club and then wiped his bottom with a sandwich.
Mark Mortimer has been found guilty of an act of outraging public decency, following the incident in Lydbrook, Gloucestershire, more than two years ago. But after failing to turn up at court for his sentencing, magistrates have issued a warrant for his arrest.
Now those running the Lydbrook and District Community Social Club, in the small Forest of Dean village, have revealed what he did when he arrived there on the evening of February 13, 2024. A spokeswoman for the club, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “He came in at about 8.30pm and acted very bizarrely. He said some strange things.”, reports Gloucestershire Live.
“He asked if he could use the toilet. We said that he could and he did. He was in there for four or five minutes.”
She said Mortimer, who had a dog with him, was direct – requesting a drink but saying he didn’t have any money to pay for it.
He also claimed he had a bomb in his pocket, although club officials could see for themselves that it was actually a large silver metal ball.
The spokeswoman said staff pretended that the club was shutting because his behaviour was so odd and they wanted him to leave.
But they were astonished when he then went outside and defecated on the wall of the club, before wiping his bottom with a sandwich that he took out of a black bag he had with him. The spokeswoman, who has operated the club with her partner for 10 years, said: “I’ve never known anything so disgusting in all of my life. You don’t expect somebody to do anything so disgusting.”
She revealed that the shocking incident left her both furious and bewildered. “I was absolutely mortified,” she said.
The spokeswoman said officers swiftly tracked down Mortimer near the club and detained him.
The 46-year-old, of Newland Street, Coleford, Gloucestershire, admitted outraging public decency – and to burgling a cottage in Lydbrook and nicking a torch on the same day – when his case eventually reached Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on April 1 this year.
He failed to turn up at court for sentencing on May 12, prompting magistrates to issue the warrant for his arrest.
Mortimer admitted affray, at Coleford on October 29, 2024, when a separate case was heard at Gloucester Crown Court on May 5 this year.
He was handed a four-month jail term but was freed due to time he had already served in custody.
