Brit girl red-faced at Bangkok airport as suitcase is confiscated over ‘naughty’ merchandise
A British tourist was left without her suitcase for 24 hours after airport security in Bangkok flagged a vibrator inside her bag – but she had no idea what had caused the hold-up until staff took her into a private office
A mortified Brit was left red-faced after her suitcase was seized due to having a vibrator packed inside.
Oliwia Krol’s trip abroad took a cringe-worthy twist when she found herself without her luggage for 24 hours. The 24 year old was left in a state of panic when she clocked airport staff brandishing a sign bearing her name, with her bags nowhere to be seen.
She was whisked away to an office and became convinced she was about to be nicked after recalling memories of old Border Force episodes. “I was panicking as I didn’t understand what was happening and was thinking I was in a lot of trouble for something,” Olivia, from Abbey Wood, South East London, told creatorzine.com.
“In my head, I had different scenarios playing out, scaring me after watching the border force growing up. They take me into an office and tell me my bag couldn’t be loaded onto the plane.
“I had no idea what it could be and I thought I was in trouble.” Olivia had travelled from Koh Samui to Bangkok while exploring Thailand on May 6.
However, her case wasn’t loaded onto the aircraft due to a banned item – which staff suspected could be a cigarette lighter.
When she was ushered into the office at Bangkok airport, she was told they required her to sign paperwork giving them permission to rifle through the bag.
She said: “At first they weren’t completely clear about what had flagged the bag. They mentioned it could either be a lighter or possibly an intimate item.
“I knew straight away it wasn’t a lighter because I didn’t have one in there, so that made things a little awkward. I’ll be honest, I did have a slight thought before flying that maybe I should put the item in checked luggage just in case.
“But I genuinely didn’t think it would cause any issue.”
The item turned out to be a vibrator – once she had signed the necessary paperwork, staff were able to search her bag.
She was left without her suitcase for 24 hours until she received an email telling her she could come back to the airport to collect it.
Oliwia said: “My friends found the whole thing hilarious afterwards and haven’t let me forget it since.
“Looking back now, it’s more funny than anything, just a very unexpected travel experience.”
