FIFA Fan Zone in Boston closed right this moment as stormy climate hits World Cup

The FIFA Fan Zone in Boston has been closed for the day over fears over stormy weather, with the City Hall Plaza venue shut to ensure the safety of fans, staff and volunteers

The FIFA Fan Zone in Boston has been forced to close due to concerns over adverse weather conditions. The fan zone, located at Boston City Hall Plaza – the city’s sole fan zone – will remain shut on Thursday, June 18.

A representative for the FIFA Fan Festival in Boston confirmed that the official World Cup venue is closed because of poor weather. The spokesperson stated: “Due to anticipated inclement weather conditions, the FIFA Fan Festival Boston at City Hall Plaza will be closed today, June 18.

“It’s our priority to ensure the safety of fans, staff, volunteers, and emergency services personnel.”, reports the Daily Record.

“Additional operational updates will be shared as needed.”

The Met Office states Boston is cloudy and 22 degrees today. There is currently a 70 per cent chance of rain which drops throughout the day, before picking up at 2pm local time, with the sun due to appear again in the evening.

The Tartan Army packed out the fan zone on Friday to watch Steve Clarke’s men beat Haiti 1-0 in the World Cup opening match. Around 5,000 ticketless supporters flooded the Plaza to watch the match on the huge screen.
