Boxing star Conor Benn has been hit with a medical ban from the sport after his agonising defeat to Ryan Garcia on Saturday night. The 29-year-old was rushed to hospital after losing to Garcia in their WBC welterweight title bout in Las Vegas.
Benn endured a second-round defeat as the referee called a halt to proceedings within six minutes. He initially got back on his feet after being knocked down by a powerful right hand early in the round at T-Mobile Arena.
However, the American seized his opportunity, unleashing a flurry of punches that trapped Benn against the ropes until the referee stepped in.

Following his hospitalisation, Benn now faces a spell on the sidelines. The British Board of Boxing Control (BBBofC) automatically hands out a minimum suspension of 28 days to any fighter who suffers a TKO loss, which can be extended to 45 days. The prohibition encompasses both sparring and competition.
Benn was facing a significant step up in class against an adversary renowned for his rapid hand speed. That speed was evident from the get-go as Garcia landed a left hook.
The English boxer was hit by another left in the first round, but responded with a body shot of his own. Nonetheless, he was powerless to stop Garcia in the second as he tasted defeat for the second time in 27 fights.

Benn later took to social media to admit: “Not my night, no excuses. Ryan Garcia, you’re a great champion.”
Following his title defence, Garcia stated: “I’ve always had a right hand but it’s always been injured.
“I was so prepared and so focused, and what a performance. I knew he was going to put me under pressure in the first round so I let him have his way a little bit.

“Then in the next round I stood my ground a little bit.
“He was coming in reckless and you can’t do that with me; he would have been better running around for the first three rounds.
“I’ve got thunder in both hands and they’re ready to go. I’m here, I’m the champion and I’m not going to mess about.”
