Shocking variety of Brits placing shock condiment on their roast dinners
A shocking quarter of young Brits admit to putting tomato ketchup – on their roast dinner. And nearly a third of Gen Zers have also dunked their chips in milkshakes, a study shows.
Those aged 18-24 also admit to dipping chips in ice cream, topping potato waffles with jam and even putting crisps in a jacket spud. Their oddball eating habits were revealed in a survey of 2,000 adults.
It found they massively outranked the national average for lashing the controversial condiment on their Sunday roasts, with 15% of people saying they combine the two – and just 6% of over-65s.
The poll, commissioned by spud supplier Golden Kings, found the UK is still obsessed with the humble potato, a spokesman said.
Katy Pook said: “Interestingly, Gen Z are not walking away from Britain’s obsession with potatoes, they’re just changing how it looks with some rather unusual flavour combinations tearing up the traditional rule book.”
It found the nation is united in voting roast potatoes as their favourite way to eat spuds, with 35% preferring the method. Chips came in second (21%), while jacket potatoes (11%) rounded off the top three.
