Bridgewater Canal horror as police swarm after girl’s physique discovered

A major incident is underway near the Bridgewater Canal in Altrincham following the discovery of a woman’s body. Emergency crews were seen beside the waterway close to Plantin Road and Atlantic Street in Broadheath on Wednesday morning (December 10).

A section of the canal towpath has been cordoned off by officers on Oldfield Road, with witnesses reporting a specialist police unit conducting searches in the vicinity, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Sadly, Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that a woman’s body was recovered from the water.

In a statement, the force said: “Shortly before 8.30am on Wednesday 10 December 2025, officers were called to Atlantic Street, Altrincham to reports of a body in the water.

“Emergency services attended and sadly the body of a female has been recovered from the water. Officers are currently working to establish her identity to inform and support her loved ones, and the circumstances surrounding her death.”
