Mohamed Salah heads for showdown talks with Liverpool supervisor Arne Slot this morning: Superstar may very well be denied Anfield farewell – and should have performed his final sport – with Saudi switch looming
Liverpool boss Arne Slot is set to hold showdown talks with Mohamed Salah this morning.
The Egyptian was left out of the Reds squad for their Champions League clash against Inter Milan midweek after his explosive outburst where he claimed someone at the club had thrown him under the bus.
And Slot has revealed he will sit down with the forward today – hinting that Salah may not play at Anfield for tomorrow’s clash against Brighton in what is his last chance to play for Liverpool before heading to the Africa Cup of Nations.
‘I will have a conversation with Mo this morning, the outcome of that conversation determines how it will look tomorrow,’ the Liverpool head coach said.
Slot also revealed the decision to drop Salah from the San Siro clash included club sporting director Richard Hughes and owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG).
He continued: ‘We decided as a club and I was part of that decision not to take him to the Inter Milan game. When it comes to the decision-making of the line-up or the squad, that is down to me but that is not to say I don’t talk to them (Hughes and FSG).’

Salah was dropped for Liverpool’s clash against Inter Milan and Slot said it was a club decision
Salah stunned the footballing world when he spoke with reporters in Elland Road’s mixed zone after he started three consecutive games from the bench.
‘I’m very disappointed,’ the 33-year-old said. ‘I’ve done so much for this club – everyone can see that – over years, especially last season, sitting on the bench I don’t know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That’s how I feel it.
‘It’s very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame. Club promised me a lot in summer. So far I I’m on bench three games, so can’t say they have kept those promises.
‘I say many times I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship, I don’t know why. It seems like someone does not want me in the club.’
His comments sparked discourse from club legends Jamie Carragher – who labelled Salah a ‘disgrace’ in the aftermath – and Steven Gerrard who said it was ‘wrong’ to claim he had been thrown under the bus.
It has also put clubs across the world on red-alert that Salah could be available for a move away from Anfield, particularly in the Saudi Pro League (SPL) and MLS.
On Wednesday, SPL chief Omar Mugharbel admitted Salah was a target for the top clubs in the Middle Eastern league, while on Thursday MLS commissioner Don Garber launched a charm offensive for the winger.
And according to a report in the Sun, Salah met with former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson – who played in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq – for a secret meeting in London this week.
The 33-year-old has since been sharing images of himself training and working out alone
The forward has been sharing images of himself training and working out alone to his millions of social media followers in recent days.
He has also been publicly backed for his comments by his friends and former team-mates, including Ahmed Elmohamady, who played alongside Salah for their national team for close to eight years.
‘Right Jamie [Carragher] you’re a disgrace,’ Elmohamady began a his social media post on X. ‘Salah completely rewrote his story through hard work, humility, and world-class performances.
‘He didn’t “fail” at Chelsea – he was never given the chance. He went to Italy, rebuilt himself, then came to Liverpool and became: A Premier League legend, Egypt’s greatest ever player, one of the most consistent forwards of his generation.
‘Salah has carried Egypt for years, and getting Egypt qualified for World Cup twice after so long, Salah earned everything.’
Citing Carragher’s gaffes as a pundit, Elmohamady added: ‘No wonder you got blanked by C.Ronaldo. No wonder Messi called you out.
‘No wonder Mourinho said you were below average and not even in top 1,000 defenders in Premier League.’
