Wythenshawe Hospital ‘affected person assaults and wounds nurse’ as police swarm space
A nurse has been wounded after reportedly being attacked with a broken mug by a patient at Wythenshawe Hospital.
Police attended the hospital at around 1.30am yesterday morning (December 11) after reports of a man being “seriously assaulted”
It’s understood that a male nurse, aged in his 50s, was left needing treatment after the attack, which is believed to have involved a broken mug, according to the MEN.
The victim’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing and he has since been released from hospital, Greater Manchester Police believe.
A 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault (grievous bodily harm).

The suspect had reportedly been receiving treatment in Wythenshawe Hospital at the time of the attack. He is believed to have remained in the hospital under police custody.
A GMP spokesperson said: “Police were called shortly after 1.30am on Thursday, December 11 2025, to a hospital on Southmoor Road, Manchester to reports that a man had been seriously assaulted.
“Officers swiftly attended and within minutes, arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of section 18 assault.
“The man remains in police custody. The victim, a man in his 50s suffered injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.
“He has since been released from hospital. Enquiries are ongoing.”
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Wythenshawe Hospital, has been approached for comment.
