Ruben Amorim will undoubtedly be thrilled by Mason Mount’s Manchester United revival after a difficult time at Old Trafford.

The £60m flop has finally started to show his worth and has been in scintillating scoring form with two strikes in his past three outings as United climbed to sixth in the Premier League after their 4-1 triumph over Wolves. Amorim heaped praise on the England international following his display at Molineux.

He said: “He can defend, he can attack, is really the quality that when he touched the ball is really good. So it’s not a surprise for me, but of course, we need to take care of him.” With Mount’s renaissance in full swing, the Red Devils find themselves in discussions about a summer choice. Here’s all the latest news from Old Trafford.

Mount delivers statement

It’s been quite the comeback for Mount after an injury-riddled opening two campaigns at Old Trafford. The former Chelsea ace, who set United back £60m in summer 2023, had managed only 31 league outings for the Red Devils before the 2025/26 season, reports the Mirror.

However, Mount has delivered a powerful statement to his manager that he’s conquered his fitness woes and is prepared to become a consistent starter and finally start to justif his transfer fee.

The 26-year-old is once more contributing goals to his repertoire, having netted three times in his previous four league starts. Most recently scoring in United’s 4-1 thrashing of Wolves on Monday, Mount’s increasing significance to the team is noteworthy.

In the seven league games he’s started this season, United have claimed victory in five, drawn one and lost one. In contrast, in the six matches where he came off the bench, United only won two, drew three and lost one.

When Mount starts, United are averaging 2.3 points per game, which would hypothetically put the club at the top of the table with 34 points if he had started all 15 matches.

Summer friendly talks

A repeat of Manchester United’s 2023 pre-season match against Wrexham could be on the horizon for next summer. Mail Sport reports the two clubs have been in talks about a potential fixture in Europe.

If an agreement on the friendly is reached, it’s expected to take place in Scandinavia due to the significant fan base both clubs enjoy in the region.

Nothing has been confirmed yet as the clubs need to plan their pre-season schedules around next year’s World Cup, which will be hosted in North America.

Their first encounter was a heated affair, with Wrexham emerging as 3-1 victors against a youthful United side. Dan Gore was shown a red card in the second half, while Paul Mullin sustained a punctured lung and broken ribs following a challenge from goalkeeper Nathan Bishop, who later apologised to the striker.
