Manchester United face a fascinating month as the January transfer window continues to offer opportunities for business. Ruben Amorim’s squad are chasing a return to European competition and may look to fresh signings to help achieve that goal.

United managed only a 1-1 stalemate against Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday. The outcome has only intensified calls for the club to secure new additions, with numerous players being linked with moves to join Amorim’s ranks.

Nevertheless, one United player has been connected with a potential departure from Old Trafford following recent criticism of his manager. Here, Daily Star Sport examines some of the most significant developments around the club.

Ruben Amorim dodges transfer question

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim declined to elaborate on his remarks concerning the current transfer window. The Portuguese boss had previously suggested his perspective differed from the club’s leadership on player recruitment, reports the Mirror.

Before the club’s victory over Newcastle last month, Amorim stated: “I have the feeling if we have to play a perfect 3-4-3, we need to spend a lot of money and we need time. I’m starting to understand that is not going to happen. So, maybe I have to adapt.”

When pressed to explain his uncertainty about United’s recruitment strategy, Amorim avoided providing a comprehensive response. “I don’t want to talk about that. I just focus on the Leeds game,” he told his pre-match press conference.

Amorim confirmed that he had no regrets about his previous transfer remarks and offered another enigmatic reply. “I don’t want to talk about that,” he continued, before adding after a brief pause: “But you are very smart, so..”

Man Utd starlet on the brink of departure

Manchester United’s loanee Harry Amass is reportedly considering his options following an impressive stint at Sheffield Wednesday. It’s suggested that he’s caught the eye of clubs higher up in the Championship, with United unlikely to recall the young player.

While Amass could stay with the struggling Owls, where he’s made 20 appearances, United might opt to send him elsewhere. The Sun suggests that Stoke City, under the management of Mark Robins, are at the forefront of a 12-club race for his signature.

This follows Amass’ recent response to Amorim’s comments that the defender was “struggling” at Wednesday. The young player later shared a photo of himself with the club’s player of the month award, although the post was later removed.

When asked to clarify his remarks about Amass and other United academy hopefuls, Amorim stated: “I didn’t say anything wrong. I just spoke about how the luck of playing for Manchester United.

“Sometimes you play for Manchester United and you go see different realities and you understand that football can be so different and that you are really lucky to be in Manchester United.”
