A British holidaymaker has gone missing thousands of miles from home after being last seen on a Christmas Day Facetime with family.

The devastated family of 31-year-old Mark Counsell say they have not heard a word from him since he last called over the festive period and fear something may have happened to him.

Mark Counsell, originally from Pontypool, South Wales, is believed to be in Thailand or the Kuala Lumpur area of Malaysia.

He had been travelling around Southeast Asia and now has been reported missing with foreign bodies and Gwent Police working to trace his whereabouts.

A spokesperson for the Welsh force said: “We’re appealing for information to find Mark Counsell, 31, who has been reported as missing. Mark was last seen on Thursday 25 December between 9am and 10am on video call, as he has been travelling Thailand recently.”

Mark is described as a white male, 5ft 9in tall, with an average build. He was last seen wearing a khaki-coloured Fred Perry T-shirt.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Gwent Police on 101 or send a direct message via social media, quoting log reference 2600001644. Police also appealed directly to Mark to get in touch.

Last year another family made a public appeal when a loved one went missing, only to find out he had undergone emergency brain surgery.

Ashton Jones, 29, went on a last-minute trip to Bangkok in Thailand to party with pals but was separated from his friends on a night out.

Five days after Ashton arrived, his family were told he was missing after a night out on the town.

His friends spent hours searching for Ashton after he went missing from the nightclub, before finding him in the hospital. Medics believe he was attacked.
