A video clip believed to have been filmed by an occupant of the Seat Leon is being probed by police investigating the fatal crash on Wigan Road, Bolton, on Sunday, which left four people dead
Bolton horror crash video showing driver hitting 122mph
A video clip showing a driver seemingly reaching speeds in excess of 120mph is reportedly ‘forming part of the police investigation’ into a collision that killed four people in Bolton on Sunday (January 11).
Yesterday (Monday), still images from the footage were published by the Manchester Evening News after it was disclosed that Greater Manchester Police were examining the video. However, the full video has now been released after being widely-shared on social media.
The footage appears to show a car driving down a busy street at high speed, overtaking other vehicles and swerving onto the wrong side of the road. At one juncture in the clip, the car’s speedometer seems to hit 122mph.
It is believed the video was recorded by a passenger in the Seat Leon involved in the deadly crash on Wigan Road on Sunday. A timestamp on the clip indicates it was filmed at 3am, believed to be Saturday morning (January 10) – less than 24 hours prior to the fatal incident at 12.50am on Sunday.
Detectives at GMP are believed to be scrutinising the clip as part of their ongoing investigations. The horrific crash between a red Seat Leon and a Citreon C4 Picasso taxi on Wigan Road claimed the lives of three teenagers and a 54-year-old man.
The teenagers, who were in the Seat, have been identified as Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar, 18, Farhan Patel, 18, and 19-year-old Mohammed Danyaal. The Citreon taxi driver has been named as Masrob Ali.
The relatives of Mr Ali, who reportedly worked for Uber, have paid tribute to him as ‘the gentlest soul’.
In a Monday update, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson confirmed that five passengers – four from the Citroen and one from the Seat – are still receiving hospital treatment following the collision.
A 29-year-old woman travelling in the Citroen has sustained ‘potentially life-threatening injuries’, according to the force’s spokesperson.
A 28-year-old woman and 30-year-old man, also occupants of the Citroen, were left with serious injuries.
A 29-year-old male passenger escaped with minor injuries.
From the Seat vehicle, an 18-year-old male passenger continues to receive hospital care for minor injuries.
Police have confirmed that their investigation into the collision remains in its ‘early stages’.
Detective Inspector Andrew Page, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, stated yesterday: “We are still in the early stages of our investigation and work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this terrible incident.
“As an investigation team we would encourage people to be mindful of sharing footage on social media given the impact this will have on all the families involved in such a tragic incident. Thanks to patrols in the area, teams were able to get to the incident location quickly to what was a particularly challenging scene for colleagues in the emergency services.
“I want to thank first responders from our Bolton district and the Road Policing Unit, alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service for their hard work since this incident. The scene closed on Sunday evening, but we are still appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
“Anyone who saw the vehicle driving before the collision, witnessed the incident itself, or has dashcam/ CCTV footage of the incident can share it with us.
