Gardaí give main replace after man killed in horror Dublin bus crash

A man in his 80s has died and three others injured after a Bus Éireann vehicle struck pedestrians on North Earl Street in Dublin city centre, with gardaí appealing for witnesses

A man in his 80s was tragically killed in a horrific bus crash in Dublin city centre today, Gardai have confirmed. The incident, involving a Bus Éireann vehicle, occurred on North Earl Street this afternoon.

Emergency services and Gardaí were promptly at the scene. Sadly, one person lost their life while three others were taken to hospital for treatment. The elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner has been informed.

Another man, in his 20s, is currently receiving treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A woman in her 30s, who was also a pedestrian, and the female bus driver, aged in her 50s, are both in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The area remains cordoned off tonight, and Gardai have reiterated their plea for people not to circulate any footage of the incident on social media, but to pass it onto them instead, reports Dublin Live.

In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic incident involving a bus on North Earl Street, Dublin 1, on Thursday 5th February 2026 shortly after 12:35pm. A male pedestrian, aged in his 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Coroner has been notified.

“A second male pedestrian (20s) is being treated in hospital for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the bus (female, 50s) and a female pedestrian (30s) are being treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

“Restrictions are in place around the scene, which has been preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local traffic and pedestrian diversions are in place.

“A Senior Investigative Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation from an incident room at Store Street Garda Station. A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to the family of the deceased.

“An Garda Síochána requests that if anyone has photographs or video of the incident to not share them but to make them available to the Garda investigation team at Store Street Garda Station. Anyone who was in the area between 12:15pm and 1:00pm and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) is asked to make that footage available to investigating Gardaí.
