PETER HITCHENS: My time in a jail experiment nonetheless haunts me – that is what I learnt

I’m still haunted by the time I spent in a fake prison, pretending to be an inmate for Channel 4’s Banged Up. 

Although we thought it would be perhaps a bit of an exercise, it turned out to be startlingly genuine.
