Police bodycam footage has captured the moment a rapist and stalker asked if he could “ring his mum and dad” while being apprehended for his appalling crimes.

Paranoid rapist Jack-Leland Webster inflicted terror on his victim, assaulting and raping her, threatening to murder her and then stalking her while on bail, which included setting up numerous fake social media accounts.

After preventing her from exiting his flat, he also issued a chilling threat to his victim as he strangled her, stating: “Don’t make me kill you” before sexually assaulting her, a court was told.

Footage shared with the Manchester Evening News depicted the moment he was arrested at his flat in Manchester. He was seen opening the door and appearing shocked as officers arrested him on suspicion of false imprisonment, rape and non-fatal strangulation.

He was heard asking: “Can I phone my mum and dad please?”, before then being heard to say: “I don’t share the same name as my mum” and that he would want to ‘tell her’, reports the Manchester Evening News.

A court was told how, in June 2024, Webster, previously known as Jack Malone, had been accusing the victim of having an affair with her ex-boyfriend. As she tried to leave his Manchester flat, he blocked the doorways to stop her from leaving.

The victim had been in contact with her ex after he had contacted her to inform her that Webster had been pretending to be him to message the victim and test her faithfulness during their relationship, a court heard.

After preventing her from leaving, he climbed on top of the victim, throttled her and said: “Don’t make me kill you. If you do, I’ll have to kill myself so we can be dead together.” He then proceeded to sexually assault her, Manchester Crown Court was told.

He was detained. Nevertheless, he violated the terms of his no contact conditions when he subsequently purchased multiple fake social media accounts to follow and contact the victim, her family and her friends.

On one instance, she was followed by over 100 profiles within seconds, with Webster also pretending to be her ex-partner when sending messages, Greater Manchester Police said.

During police questioning, Webster rejected all charges against him. When an officer attempted to arrange his second interview, he was uncooperative and told the officer to “pick me up from KFC” and “catch me if you can”.

He had earlier admitted to stalking, before the case proceeded to trial and was found guilty of rape and strangulation by a jury. On Wednesday, Webster, of Cedar Road, Earl Shilton, Leicester, was jailed for nine years and five months. He has also been issued with an indefinite restraining order. Investigating officer Detective Constable Lucy Hatton stated: “Jack-Leland Webster (formerly Jack Malone) is a very dangerous individual who was rightly remanded in custody following a prolonged stalking and domestic abuse campaign where he breached bail conditions multiple times.

“I hope this sentence offers some reassurance for other victims of stalking and sexual offences. We take all reports of stalking, rape and sexual assaults very seriously and will pursue these offenders and bring them to justice.”
