Kobbie Mainoo has set his sights on helping Manchester United win big trophies again after pledging his long-term future to the club and shared the dressing room’s feelings on Michael Carrick.

Mainoo has signed a new and improved deal worth £120,000-a-week that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2031. It represents a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the England midfielder, who was frozen out during the first half of the season and came close to joining Napoli on-loan.

But the arrival of Carrick as interim manager following Ruben Amorim’s sacking has resulted in Mainoo becoming a key part of the United team again. And Mainoo, who turned 21 earlier this month (April), is now focusing on helping the fallen giants return to the biggest stages once again.

Mainoo said: “Manchester United has always been my home. This special club means everything to my family.

“I have grown up seeing the impact that our club has on our city, and I relish the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.

“The journey so far has been incredible. I have the privilege of living my dream every single day, with the same relentless desire to succeed here as when I joined my first training session at the age of six.”

Speaking about life under Carrick, he added: “We can all feel the momentum building inside the club. I am determined to step up and play my role in helping Manchester United to regularly fight for major trophies in the years ahead.”
