Daily Star’s music guru enjoys a hoedown with Kacey Musgraves and turns the amps up to 11 for The Black Keys
Reconnecting with her Texan roots, Kacey Musgraves may appear to be the sweet archetypal country gal on first play, but she gives the music a satisfying spin to remind you she’s a modern thinker as well on Middle Of Nowhere.
Almost two songs in one, the title track’s dizzying tempo change is like of being awoken from a dream only to then nod off again, while Everybody Wants to Be a Cowboy celebrates the cliches of the Rhinestone existence that’s her actual life.
The album was written after a break-up and Kacey leans into her single status for the amusing foot-tapper Dry Spell “sitting on the washing machine” for company.
That feeling of solitude purveys atmospheric highlights Coyote and Hell On Me, but ultimately her honeyed voice concludes there’s no better company than her own for the moving, Loneliest Girl.

Maximum country blues is the order of the day from the analogue obsessed duo The Black Keys who are in a rich vein of form at the moment.
Peaches! was conceived as a creative outlet for Dan Auerbach while he tended after his sick father last year, Patrick Carney takes the Black Keys back to their roots recording in one room often in just one take.
The result is gloriously crude, the buzz of amplifiers often as loud as vocals but it’s the perfect vibe for raw Robert Cage and Dr. Feelgood covers.
Tell Me You Loved Me gets off to a couple of false starts but it adds to the ramshackle charm, especially when they lock into the groove.
Lovers of slide guitar get their fill on RL Burnside’s Fireman Ring The Bell, while Keith Richards will adore George Thorogood rocker You Got To Lose.
It’s most definitely a peach!
