A 18-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man in his 30s was rushed to hospital with ‘injuries consistent with a stabbing’ in Moss Side
A murder probe has been initiated following the fatal stabbing of a man in Moss Side.
Police have cordoned off an area on Raby Street, near Westwood Street, today (Saturday, May 9) after the incident occurred on Friday evening. A forensic tent has been set up within the sealed-off area.
Forensic experts have been seen conducting investigations on the street. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police stated that a man in his 30s was rushed to hospital with ‘injuries consistent with a stabbing’. Tragically, he passed away a short while later. An 18-year-old male has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder, with investigations into the assault continuing, reports the Manchester Evening News.
In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: “Officers responded to an incident in Raby Street, Moss Side following reports of an assault at around 11pm last night (08/05/26).
“One man aged in his 30s had injuries consistent with a stabbing was and taken to hospital, where he sadly died shortly after. Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, who are being supported by specialist officers.
“One man, aged 18, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”
Police and emergency services remain at the area as they investigate the incident.
It comes after a 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a “much loved” man’s body in a rooftop garden in Bristol, according to police.
Anthony Clemmings was discovered by a passer-by in the roof garden of a Redcliff Street flat complex just before 8.20am on Tuesday. The 54-year-old, affectionately known as Tony, was declared dead at the scene.
On Saturday, Avon and Somerset Police announced that a 50-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder in the West Midlands area on Friday. Detective Chief Inspector Laura Miller, from the major crime investigation team, said following the arrest: “Our inquiries into Tony’s death have been progressing well since Tuesday and an arrest has now been made.
“We have updated Tony’s family of this significant development and specially-trained officers are still supporting them. His family continue to ask for privacy at this immensely upsetting time and we would ask people are respectful of their wishes.”
Earlier, Mr Clemmings’ family issued a statement, saying: “Tony was a lovely man to all those that truly knew him.
“He was a much-loved son, brother and uncle and he will be greatly missed. His death has come as a huge shock to us and we ask for privacy as we try to come to terms with what has happened.”
