Here’s everything you need to know about why Ousmane Dembele opted to take his penalty against Arsenal in the Champions League final with his weaker foot…

  • Ousmane Dembele netted Paris Saint-Germain’s leveller against Arsenal in the Champions League final, stepping up to dispatch a penalty with his less dominant right foot. Cristhian Mosquera was penalised for fouling Khvicha Kvaratskhelia midway through the second half in Budapest.
  • PSG’s appointed penalty taker is Dembele, and the French international didn’t falter, blasting past David Raya to nullify Kai Havertz’s early opener within six minutes. The goal was slotted home without any drama, but several fans noted that he did so with his right foot rather than his left.
  • One user on X queried: “Who noticed Dembele played that penalty with right foot? Psychology ready for it.” Another questioned: “How’s dembele taking a penalty with his right foot when he’s left footed in a champs league final.”
  • Yet another highlighted: “Dembele has been on rw playing with his left foot but decided to play the pen with his right.” A fourth observed: “Dembele is left footed but uses right foot to take penalties”, reports Football London.
  • Dembele clarified his approach while at Rennes. When asked by an interviewer which was his stronger foot, he responded: “Left footed. I’m more left-footed, yeah.”
  • The interviewer then pointed out that the forward doesn’t take penalties with his left. Dembele explained: “Because I shoot better with my right foot”.
