Matt Brown was the star of Alaskan Bush People, a reality TV show that followed the Brown family’s unconventional off-the-grid lifestyle
Matt Brown – star of Alaskan Bush People – has been found dead, after his heartbroken brother said he pulled a body out of a river earlier this week.
A press release from the Okanogan County Sheriff’s office distributed on Wednesday revealed a 911 caller had reported seeing “a male sitting in the shallow water” of the Okanogan River south of Oroville, Washington.
Matt’s younger brother, Bear, had initially raised the alarm to his followers after he hadn’t heard from his sibling in a few days.
In an emotional social media post on Saturday evening, Bear announced Matt’s body had been found.
He said: “They found a body in the river a few hours ago and it was positively identified as being Matt.”
Bear added that it was their younger brother, Noah, who had been the first to see the body further down the river.
“Noah helped them pull the body out of the water and Noah identified [Matt],” Bear continued.
Police, firefighters and emergency responders had been searching for a body earlier this week, but did not discover anything. An autopsy is yet to be carried out.
Matt was one of the first stars of Alaskan Bush People, Discovery Channel’s hit reality series.
It followed the Brown family’s unconventional off-grid lifestyle in the Alaskan wilderness.
The Okanogan County Sheriff’s office said a firearm was found by the water where the man first went missing. In an emotional TikTok post, Bear also highlighted how his brother had struggled with alcohol and drug addiction, alongside “other issues” he had kept hidden from the public.
