Yvette Fielding almost quit Most Haunted after a crew member got hurt in a ghost attack.

The 57-year-old paranormal investigator, who co-created the long running spooky ghost hunting series with husband Karl Beattie in 2002, recalled a moment she nearly walked away after their sound technician suffered a cut “so deep you could actually see the bone” during a live broadcast from the Edinburgh Vaults.

Yvette said: “I had never thought that we could get harmed. I kept crying and saying, ‘That’s it. I’m done. I can’t cope with this. What the hell are we dealing with?’”

The Vaults date back to 1785 and began as a gambling and boozing den of sorts underneath the city.

Rumours have circulated over the years that serial killer William Burke and William Hare stashed bodies there, though this hasn’t been proved.

There has been talk of violent ghosts roaming there for years. Two other members of the crew were left cut and scratched, with everyone shaken by the terrifying incident.

Yvette was ready to quit the hit show, but she took a few weeks to debate her future on the show, which has returned for a 28th series on Pluto TV, and discuss her feelings with husband Karl.

However, her “resolve hit through”, and she was determined not to “let this beat” her.

She explained: “I then started researching cases throughout history where people were physically hurt by, seemingly, a spirit.

“It was unbelievable the amount of terrifying cases that were reported in newspapers – bite marks, burn marks, scratches, bruising.”

Yvette decided the best approach with paranormal investigations is to “go the whole way” rather than backing off out of fear.

Now, she gets “so excited” when there’s physical evidence of something going on, even if it’s someone suffering a “little scratch or a burn mark”.

However, it’s fair to say not everyone matches her mindset, with several crew members quitting during filming.

Yvette said: “When crew come and work on the show, they might think it’s a TV show, so stuff’s made up. But when they realise this is real, they start questioning things. It really can be quite upsetting and unnerving.”

Back in October 2025, Yvette revealed she and Karl were moving out of their once-haunted house 23 years after moving into the creepy Tudor detached house in the Cheshire countryside.

She said at the time: “We’re moving. We had a really lovely holiday cottage in Devon and fell in love with it, so our plan is to move there from Cheshire.

“I want to keep writing and gardening, and Karl is a cartoonist, so we’ll live a quiet life. Hopefully, someone will fall in love with our house; it needs a family.”

Yvette, who performed seances in the garden shed, previously claimed the house was haunted before she “did a blessing” which got rid of the spirits.

In 2022, she said: “When we moved in 20 years ago, we’d hear knocking at the door but there’d be no one there, and we’d find the kitchen chairs stacked on top of the table in a pyramid.”
